VISTA
This another series from an animation sequence, this time it was rendered by
VistaPro from VRLI.
The 'island' you see is actually a FractalPro-created Digital Elevation Map
(DEM) which has been fed into VistaPro and rendered as a flyover animation
of 562 frames.
All the originals are in 768x480 24-bit with up to 16 million colors.
I used a Cube Mandelbrot Set as the original shape for FractalPro to render
as a VistaPro DEM (which it does in real time while it does its ordinary
image rendering). Then I transferred the DEM file to VistaPro and used
VRLI's MakePath program to lay out a flyover path around the 'island'.
VistaPro let me set up a color palette and sea-level to make this object
look surrounded by water. I then modified the color palette to make the
plateau surface of the Cube Mandelbrot Set into something resembling a
seething volcano, with brown cliff-like edges. Then VistaPro let me
add palm trees (for which I chose blue-green stalks and purple leaves)
at the edges of the island. Stars in the black night sky completed the
VistaPro preparations.
The end result was rendered at highest images quality (altitude shading
set to maximum, Polygon 1 size, at 768x480 24-bit) in VistaPro as a
series of 562 images and viewed using the DPS Personal Animation Recorder.
It is a spectacular flyover of an island that never was, in a fractal
universe of my own imagination. It's an extremely realistic look into
the surreal.
